SHOT Show 2024 Recap: Top Picks of Gear, Guns, and Accessories

The 2024 SHOT Show has concluded, and while many express regret over not being able to attend, given its focus on industry members, Ammunition Depot is committed to keeping everyone informed about the latest developments, upcoming releases, and noteworthy trends.

Regrettably, this means you'll have to rely on my firsthand account of what I found to be the coolest highlights.

Keep in mind that I am just one person and that what I experienced was just a fraction of the expansive SHOT Show.

This event is so vast that it practically spans three distinct roofs, occupying two entire convention floors at the Venetian and another convention space at the Caesar's Forum next door, with a temporary bridge erected over a busy roadway to facilitate travel between the spaces!

Despite dedicating 98% of my time to the main floor (Floor 2) of the Venetian, I still couldn't cover every corner of this immense space.

Coolest Gear & Accessories

Holosun's Technological Marvels

Holosun, a trailblazer in optic innovation, once again captivated attendees with their cutting-edge Red Dot Sights (RDS).

Last year's unveiling of RDS models featuring night vision, the DRS-NV, and thermal overlays on the sight window signaled a significant leap forward.

What sets Holosun Optics apart is not just the technology itself but the imminent availability of these products to the general public. The night vision overlay version of the Holosun RDS, the DRS-NV, is already hitting store shelves, with the infrared version following closely behind.

The DRS-NV (Digital Reflex Sight-Night Vision)

The DRS-NV (Digital Reflex Sight-Night Vision) is a red dot and digital night vision fusion sight that combines Holosun’s red dot sight technology with digital night vision capability.

DRS-NV features an LED MRS (Multi-Reticle System) with two digital reticle options, 1024x768 resolution digital night vision sensor with up to 60fps, 8x digital zoom, digital image and video recording with on-board storage, and is powered by an 18350 rechargeable battery.

Moreover, Holosun Optics turned heads with their "proof of concept" – the Holosun DPS (Digital Pistol Sight).

This pistol-mounted RDS, with a thermal sensor mounted on a pistol's dust cover that provides a thermal overlay image to the RDS, introduces a futuristic element to the firearm world.

Affordable and versatile, the DPS promises a unique shooting experience, particularly when considering its potential application on smaller Pistol Caliber Carbines (PCC).

The intersection of cutting-edge technology and affordability makes Holosun's offerings a standout in the industry.

Coolest Guns of SHOT Show 2024

Daniel Defense Dominates

Daniel Defense emerged as a force to be reckoned with at SHOT Show 2024, jumping head-first into the 9mm round by unveiling the DANIEL H9 (their reboot of the Hudson H9).

Also slated for release later this year is Daniel Defense's first-ever PCC (Pistol Caliber Carbine). Built around the CZ Scorpion magazine pattern, the PCC has plenty of DD touches to warrant a deeper look.

The DANIEL H9 Pistol

The DANIEL H9, born from the ashes of the Hudson H9, promises a unique shooting experience.

Having addressed the issues that led to Hudson's dissolution, Daniel Defense combines size, weight, and build quality in the DANIEL H9, ensuring a firearm that not only feels right in the hand but also upholds stringent quality control standards.

The comprehensive feature set of the Daniel H9 includes:

  • A low bore axis for reduced muzzle rise and faster, more accurate follow-up shots.
  • A straight-pullback 1911-like trigger and a trigger safety blade for precise control and improved safety.
  • A one-piece-machined ambidextrous slide stop and reversible mag-release button for superior ergonomics.
  • A cold hammer-forged barrel with a 1:10 twist, 6 grooves, and polygonal rifling for optimized performance and accuracy.
  • A Type 7075 aluminum grip for a balance of weight and strength.
  • Balanced-texture grip panels for comfortable and secure handling.
  • Compatibility with most popular red dot optics for enhanced versatility.
  • A slim profile for optimal maneuverability and concealability.
  • Steel factory sights with a dovetail cut for accurate aiming.
  • A low friction magazine finish for smooth magazine insertion and removal.
  • A standard capacity of 15 + 1 rounds of 9mm.

The DANIEL PPC

The DD PCC, a fully ambidextrous PCC built on the AR platform, adds another feather to Daniel Defense's cap.

Designed to accept CZ Scorpion-type 9mm magazines, this PCC boasts meticulous attention to detail and the high-quality craftsmanship that Daniel Defense is renowned for.

The potential pairing of a DD PCC with the aforementioned Holosun's thermal DPS opens up exciting possibilities for firearm enthusiasts.

Between the introduction of the DANIEL H9 pistol and Daniel Defense's first-ever PCC (Pistol Caliber Carbine), we're excited to get our hands on these innovative firearms and the new possibilities they bring to enthusiasts and professionals alike.

KRISS Vector Gen. 3

The KRISS Vector Gen. 3 showcased evolutionary upgrades to its unique design.

The distinct "KRISS Super-V" recoil system, originally designed to mitigate recoil effects in the KRISS Vector full-auto .45ACP sub-gun, received refinements in the Gen. 3 model.

Slightly smaller in size, with improved controls and an adjustable stock, the Gen. 3 promises a more user-friendly experience.

The ability to swap the pistol grip with AR-15-type grips adds a customizable touch, while an upgraded trigger promises an enhanced overall shooting experience.

KRISS USA, if you’re reading this, I’ll take mine in the “pistol” version for potential use with a folding stabilizing brace!

Although information on pricing and availability is scheduled to be revealed later this year, we did have the opportunity to get full-blown overview of each Gen3 model.
