The Story Behind Pine Creek’s 12 Gauge Surplus Ammo

On October 9, 2024, a tornado tore across Okeechobee County, Florida, cutting a path straight through Pine Creek Sporting Club.

The storm was part of a larger system spun off by Hurricane Milton, and it hit fast.

Buildings were leveled. Trees were downed. And inside one of those destroyed outbuildings sat a stockpile of 12 gauge shotgun shells and 28 gauge shotgun shells.

This is the story of what happened to that ammo, how it made its way to Ammunition Depot, and why it's now ready to serve shooters once again.

A Tornado Hits the Millionaires' Gun Club

Pine Creek Sporting Club is a private hunting community known for its five-star grounds, elite membership, and top-quality gear.

CNBC once called it the “Millionaires’ Gun Club,” and with good reason.

Founded by TV mogul Stephen Myers, the club counts icons like Jack Nicklaus among its members. The gun vault alone contains roughly 800 premium firearms, composed of collections worth more than most homes.

Members shoot regularly, and the club keeps a healthy supply of 12 gauge ammo from trusted brands like Federal, Fiocchi, and Rio.

When the tornado struck, several buildings were destroyed, including one that housed part of the club’s ammo supply. Factory-sealed cases were knocked loose and scattered.

Plastic shells in Federal red, Fiocchi blue, and Rio green (Coming Soon) were found across the grounds.

Luckily, no one was hurt.

But the cleanup raised a big question: what do you do with a few pallets of storm-exposed shells?

The Ammo Was Ours to Sort. And We Did.

Once we acquired the inventory, Ammunition Depot took full responsibility for evaluating every case.

Our team inspected, sorted, and cleaned the ammunition by hand.

Anything fully submerged, visibly damaged, or showing signs of compromised performance was pulled and removed from circulation.

What remained were shells that had minimal exposure and showed no signs of moisture damage or deterioration. These were moved into dry storage, sample tested, and cleared for sale.

This wasn't a quick pass. It was a methodical process, done by experienced professionals.

And if a shell didn’t pass our standards, it didn’t make the cut.
