About Kershaw Knives

Kershaw Knives has been revolutionizing the cutting tool industry since 1974 when founder Pete Kershaw established the company in Portland, Oregon.

Pete Kershaw founded the company after leaving Gerber Legendary Blades, where he worked as a knife salesman with a vision to create his own cutlery company based on original knife designs.

The company partnered with Kai Cutlery of Japan early on, with master bladesmith Ichiro Hattori creating the inaugural batch of Kershaw fixed-blade knives known as the "Kershaw Hunters."

In the late 1990s, Kershaw launched a revolution in the knife industry with their SpeedSafe assisted opening technology, originally introduced on the Ken Onion Random Task model.

Today, Kershaw operates as part of KAI USA Ltd. and continues celebrating 50 years of innovation while maintaining their commitment to quality American and Japanese manufacturing.
