Unity Tactical was founded in 2012 via text message as a "friendly side hustle" by Trent Zimmer and friends from his local shooting range.

The company began in Broussard, Louisiana, driven by the desire to optimize weapons accessories for better integration and function with a focus on relentless practicality.

Zimmer taught himself mechanical design and developed the first product, the ATOM slide, to mount an Aimpoint Micro onto a Glock slide for Special Operations community requirements.
