Product Details

This 158 grain .38 Special semi-wadcutter hollow point is a versatile cartridge. Accurate for target shooting, affordable for recreational shooting, and reliable enough for small game or varmint control. Equipped with a reloadable brass casing, non-corrosive boxer primers, and an expanding hollow point projectile, these 38 Special rounds are a good all-around choice.

PPU ammo has been around since 1928, making huge strides in quality control and product consistency since then. PPU does this by manufacturing all of their own casings and projectiles in-house, giving them total control over the major components of their products. They maintain a stringent quality control process to ensure only the best product is available. Their brand is widely known to be a fine choice of ammo for almost any type of shooting.

leading problem solved (final review for this product)
After running one box of 50 and fighting the leading I bought a chemical lead remover which worked but was a SLOW process. Next I decided to put a thin layer of RCBS rifle bullet lube on each bullet from the casing neck to the end of the bullet and that did the trick. Firing the lubed ammunition didn't change anything except that I cleaned it normally with no traces of lead in the barrel after using a bronze brush cutting cleaning time to less than 10 minuets. It's all good now.

PRVI PPU 38 special
Solid round. Cycled flawlessly in my Henry Big Boy. Only 4 stars because it seemed to be a lot of smoke from these compared to other rounds.

Follow up of initial review
I finished off the box of 50 and my first review remains unchanged. Today I ran 6rds copper jacketed .357mag before running the PPU .38spl, leading is still more than I would like. Not impossible to get leading out, but it's labor intensive just the same. Still good accuracy, no failures to fire through the first box of 50rds. I would recommend them with caution to clean your firearm well after use.

Imported Serbian .38SPL
Bought a 500rd case and so far I've spent 30rds to date with no failure to fire. I'm using it in a stainless steel S&W 60-14 with 2in barrel, accuracy is close to my hand loaded rounds so it's about average and reliable so far. Today I cleaned the revolver and there was a LOT of lead in the barrel for 30rds, a LOT. Took a little over an hour to get it cleaned out but it's good now. Besides the leading, it's good ammunition if you don't mind the work to clean it out. I normally run copper plated lead or copper jacketed and never had a problem. I also ran Hornady lead bullets hand loaded and never had that much lead deposit. They work, they're inexpensive, they're accurate but leading is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 stars.
