About Tasco

Tasco was founded in 1954 by George Rosenfield as Tanross Supply Company, originally distributing fishing tackle and hardware for post-war leisure-focused Americans.

The company shortened its name to Tasco in the late 1950s and shifted focus to optics, beginning with binoculars and sport optics.

By the 1960s, Tasco had become a major telescope distributor targeting first-time buyers, importing high-quality optics from Japanese manufacturers including Royal Optical, Goto, Towa, and Carton.

The brand reached its peak in the mid-1990s with annual sales of approximately $110 million and 160 employees before experiencing ownership changes through the early 2000s.
