Gold Dot remains a great choice for home and self defense.  The jacketed hollow point allows it to feed more reliably from a magazine than non-jacketed cartridges while still retaining the knockdown ability and low-penetration that comes from the "blooming" nature of hollow point ammunition. Speer applies its jacket using a molecular bonding process, which has proven to be very difficult to sheer away from the lead-alloy core.  The new Gold Dot 2 has been updated with a polymer tip to fill the hollow point which allows the bullet to bloom when it should and stay together when it shouldn't providing even more reliability to this tried-and-true brand.
