Counter Assault
About Counter Assault
Counter Assault was founded in 1986 in Missoula, Montana by Pride Johnson through Bushwacker Backpack & Supply.
The company developed the first consumer bear spray in collaboration with the University of Montana under Dr. Charles Jonkel and Carrie Hunt of the Border Grizzly Project.
In 1998, Counter Assault became the first company to receive EPA registration for bear deterrent pepper spray and won the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee Grizzly Bear Stewardship Award.
The company has continuously expanded their specialized manufacturing facility in Kalispell, Montana, doubling capacity multiple times to meet global demand.
Today, Counter Assault remains the pioneer in bear deterrent technology, producing hundreds of thousands of units annually and distributing to over 55 countries worldwide.
