ANSWER: YES! In most areas of the US you can buy ammo online and have it shipped to your door. There are some restrictions which you can read about in our Terms and Conditions.

QUESTION: Do I need a license to buy ammo online?

ANSWER: There are some areas that require a license to buy ammo anywhere and buying online is no exception.

If you want your ammo shipped to states like Connecticut, Illinois, and New Jersey, we will reach out to you to get a copy of your license after you place your first order.

Once we have a copy on file we can continue shipping to your verified address until the license expires. If your state doesn't have these rules in place, you can order ammo online without a license.

QUESTION: What ammo is allowed at the range?

ANSWER: Indoor ranges generally will not allow any steel core ammo or any tracer. Steel core ammo can damage the backstop at the range and tracer is a fire hazard.

Ranges usually use a magnet to check for steel core ammo as lead and brass are nonferrous and won't attract a magnet.

Outdoor ranges may allow both of these, but some regions restrict tracer ammo being fired outdoors because of the fire hazard it presents.

The best thing to do is to contact your range before you arrive to find out what, if any, ammo they restrict.

QUESTION: Can ammo be returned?

ANSWER: Yes! At Ammunition Depot, and nowhere else, you can return ammunition (and other products).

QUESTION: Does ammo go bad or expire?

ANSWER: If stored properly, ammo can easily outlast you! Proper storage means cool, dry, and without temperature swings.

However, if exposed to excessive humidity or extreme temperatures ammo can degrade over time.

Ammo stored in an ammo can or purchased prepacked for long term storage like The Prepper will be safe to shoot for decades.

QUESTION: Is ammo corrosive?

ANSWER: Most ammo is not corrosive. However, in ammo that is corrosive it is generally the primer that causes corrosion.

Any ammo with corrosive primers will be clearly marked.

QUESTION: Can I fly with guns and ammo?

ANSWER: Yes, but there are restrictions. You must follow specific rules in order to fly with guns or ammo and you must not be traveling through airports in any jurisdictions that do not allow you to have a firearm.

The TSA provides guidelines on Transporting Firearms and Ammunition, should you plan to carry at your destination you want to make sure you can do so legally.

QUESTION: What kind of ammo is Walmart not selling?

ANSWER: Walmart has said they will stop selling all "short barrel rifle ammunition," as well as all handgun ammunition.

They specifically mention that they will no longer sell .223/5.56 ammo. Handgun ammo means things like 9mm ammo, .45 ACP ammo, and .40 S&W ammo will no longer be available at Walmart.
